It is home to the American branch of the British Academy of Contemporary Music in downtown Oklahoma City. Founded in 1890, the University of Central Oklahoma was one of the first institutions of higher learning to be established in what would become the state of Oklahoma, making it one of the oldest universities in the southwest region of the United States. Most recently before accepting the presidency at CSU, she served as the Provost at Coppin State University. President Jackson-Hammond’s experience in educational leaders hip spans more than 30 years and includes faculty status and tenured professorships. This year, the University will break ground on a New Residential Hall and Wellness Center, which will be home to the Exercise Science Program and nearly 250 on-campus residents in traditional and apartment style units.Central State University was named HBCU of the Year for 2017 by HBCU Digest.Three new degreed programs: Sustainable Agriculture, Exercise Science (College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Agriculture) and Agriculture Education (College of Education).

Cynthia Jackson-Hammond became the eighth president of Central State University (CSU) on July 1, 2012, and the first female president in the 131-year history of the University.
